How to bypass Great Firewall of China (GFW) in Macintosh

Note: If you prefer to read in Chinese, go here.

The internet censorship in China is quite irritating. Here I have found this Tor Project which can be used to bypass the GFW.

For Firefox users:

  1. Download Vidalia Bundle for Mac OS X.
  2. Firefox 4 is currently not compatible with Tor, download and install Firefox 3 instead.
  3. Open the dmg of Vidalia Bundle. Double-click "Install Torbutton for Firefox.app". This will install Tor plugin to Firefox 3.
  4. Launch Vidalia. Once it's successfully connected, you are able to bypass the GFW using Firefox 3.

For Google Chrome users:

  1. Download Vidalia Bundle for Mac OS X.
  2. Install Proxy Switchy plugin for Chrome.
  3. Go to the setting page. On Proxy Profile tab, name the Profile Name to Tor. Set the HTTP Proxy to 127.0.0.1 , set the Port to 8118
  4. Go to General tab, enable Quick Switch. Change the Profile 2 to Tor.
  5. Save setting and launch Vidalia. Once it's successfully connected, you are able to bypass the GFW using Google Chrome.

More detail here.

Enjoy~

The VPN i recommend is Primovpn. They are a heck of a lot cheaper than Strong VPN or hidemyself ... their website is http://www.primovpn.net .Downloading is also awesome. It's much better than proxy websites because they contain less amount of malware and viruses in comparision to proxy websites.
